Printer Compatibility & Hardware Requirements

Can I use Colorway cardstock with my existing inkjet printer?

Yes — 99% of professional TCG creators use their existing desktop inkjet printers with our cardstock. We design all our products to work with standard consumer and professional photo inkjet printers without any special hardware or custom profiles.

Fully compatible brands: Epson P-series (P700, P900), Canon PRO-series (PRO-200, PRO-300), and all mainstream HP inkjet printers

Works with both dye and pigment inks

NOT compatible: Laser printers (high heat will permanently damage our nanocoating and holographic layers)

Why do I need to use the rear manual feed tray?

All Colorway 300gsm+ cardstock is significantly thicker than standard printer paper. The rear manual feed tray (or top feed slot) is designed to handle thicker media up to 350gsm, while standard bottom cassettes are only rated for 200–250gsm.

Using the rear feed:

Prevents paper jams and roller damage
Ensures consistent feeding and alignment
Eliminates curling during printing

What if my printer only supports paper up to 260gsm?

Choose our 260gsm single-sided holographic or RC satin cardstock. This lighter weight feeds reliably in standard bottom trays while still delivering excellent print quality and durability. It is ideal for high-volume production and entry-level TCG businesses.

Do I need any special ink or cartridges?

No! Our proprietary RC nanocoating is optimized for all standard dye and pigment inks. You can use the same cartridges you already use for photo printing. For the absolute best color accuracy, we recommend using OEM (original manufacturer) inks rather than third-party refills.

Printing & Production Workflow

What print settings should I use for Colorway cardstock?

For optimal results every time:

Set scaling to exactly 100% (never use “fit to page”) to ensure the standard 63x88mm TCG card size is perfect
Select “Premium Glossy Photo Paper” as the media type
Enable high-quality print mode
Set resolution to 5760dpi (maximum supported)
Disable any automatic color correction for the most accurate color reproduction

Why do I have to wait 24 hours after printing?

This is the single most important step for achieving professional results. Our RC nanocoating undergoes a temporary chemical reaction with ink during printing, which makes the surface slightly rough and abrasive.

0–30 minutes post-print: Surface is extremely abrasive — do not touch or handle
30 minutes–24 hours: Surface gradually smooths out
After 24 hours: Coating returns to its original factory-smooth finish

Skipping this step will result in cards that stick together, damage sleeves, and have a poor shuffle feel.

How do I get that "buttery smooth" official shuffle feel?

After the 24-hour curing period, lightly dust finished cards with zinc stearate powder (fanning powder). This dry lubricant reduces friction between cards, giving them the same effortless glide as official casino and TCG cards.

Simply place a small amount of powder in a bag with your cards, shake gently, and then wipe off any excess with a soft cloth.

Can I use automated cutting machines with Colorway cardstock?

Yes! Our cardstock cuts cleanly and easily with all major automated cutting machines, including Cricut, Siser, and Silhouette models. It also works perfectly with standard rotary cutters and guillotine trimmers.

Note: A small amount of paper residue may be left on the edges after cutting. This can be easily removed by lightly dusting the cards with a soft brush.

How do I make reverse holo cards with your holographic cardstock?

Our exclusive Selective Foil technology makes creating perfect reverse holo cards incredibly simple. In your design software:

Set your artwork layer to 100% opacity
Set your card border and background layers to 0–30% opacity
Print directly onto our holographic cardstock

The holo effect will shine through the transparent areas exactly like an official reverse holo card — no extra steps required.

Yes! Unlike cheap “black dyed” paper that still lets light through, our true native black core uses a three-layer co-extrusion process to create a solid, ultra-dense black interlayer. It passes the strictest flashlight test even in bright tournament lighting, making it ideal for tournament playtest proxies.

When trimmed, our black core cards show a clean, uniform jet-black edge that is identical to official Pokémon, MTG, and Yu-Gi-Oh! cards.

Common Mistakes & Troubleshooting

Why are my cards sticking together?

This is almost always caused by not waiting the full 24-hour curing period. The coating is still slightly tacky during the curing process, causing cards to stick together. Make sure to let sheets sit untouched for 24 hours before cutting or handling.

If your cards still stick after curing, lightly dust them with zinc stearate powder to reduce friction.

Why is my printer jamming?

Printer jams are almost always caused by using the bottom cassette tray instead of the rear manual feed tray. All 300gsm+ cardstock must be fed through the rear manual feed slot.

If you are still experiencing jams:

Make sure you are loading only 1–2 sheets at a time
Check that your printer’s paper thickness setting is set to “Thick Paper” or “Cardstock”
Clean your printer’s rollers regularly to remove dust and debris

Why are my colors not as vibrant as official cards?

For the most vibrant colors:
